Do you think Miss California's answer to the gay marriage question cost her the pagent?

I was very impressed with her honest answer. How about you?Do you think Miss California's answer to the gay marriage question cost her the pagent?
Im glad she said what she believes in. she stumbed a bit out of nervousness, but she still went with her gut feeling. I fully agree with her on that issue as well. Just because so many people in America are trying really hard to make gay marriage legal and acceptable doesnt mean people agree to it, and it sure as heck doesnt mean everyone should be jumping on the bandwagon. she shouldnt be scrutinized because of her personal opinion. Perez Hilton can suck it.Do you think Miss California's answer to the gay marriage question cost her the pagent?
I think she was better off being honest. In her beliefs, it isn't right. Who are we to say that she is a horrible person for having a different belief? She didn't say that gay marriage should be outlawed at all. She just said that she didn't condone it.
I don't know if it actaully cost her the crown, but I respect her for speaking her mind knowing that it may hurt her chances.

If there's a chance you might not like the answer, then you shouldn't be asking the question. And if you ask a controversial question, you can't hold it against someone for giving an unpopular answer.
I think the question and answer portions of these pageants is

really silly. Isn't it time to stop the pretense about the pageant being about something besides beauty? The women who start grooming for these prizes are not in it as an intellectual pursuit. They are in it because they look good. I find the whole thing pretty offensive to women and embarrassing to watch. (Maybe Miss California should get a job as a talking head on the 700 Club).
Although I don't agree with her answer, I was also impressed with her honesty.

I don't think it cost her the pageant, however. The winners are decided on many factors.
There was no way she could have escaped being booed no matter how she answered such a contentious question. Perez is the dummy for that.

What happens if somebody gets their green card through a marriage?

and then they get divorced? What happens if somebody gets their green card through a marriage?
If they have their 10 year green card, then they would most likely retain their status.

If they have a 2 year conditional green card, they would need to apply for a waiver to remove conditions as a single person, which can only be done after the divorce is final. Obviously, filing as a single person is more difficult, but not impossible. They would need to prove that the marriage was entered in to with genuine intent and dissolved naturally.

They would also no longer be eligible to apply for naturalization within 3 years. What happens if somebody gets their green card through a marriage?
that depends on what kind of green card it is.

IF it is a 2 year conditional card then the foreigner becomes an illegal alien in USA after the marriage breaks up and after the card expires.

if the card is 10 years and permanent then NOTHING happens.
A marriage green card is ';conditional'; upon the marriage. It's called conditional status. After 2 years of marriage, the person is permitted to file to change the status to non-conditional if they wish
nothing change only your status, and that proved that your marriage is real not fake otherwise fraud is punishable by law
Nothing it is me Barrack come and visit some time i will double NASA'S Budget.
Nothing.
u can complain about the marriage to USICE,that it was just for gain...don't keep quiet...

Why does the Left wing fight so much for homosexual marriage?

Marriage is a Covenant of God. God does not recognize sodomite unions as marriage. That is all their is to it but God does love homosexuals too and will welcome them with open arms if they chose to repentWhy does the Left wing fight so much for homosexual marriage?
Because their conscience has been seared with an iron, and they have been turned over to a reprobate mind. They have no morals so they have no boundaries to live by. Merely animals, with no hope for heaven. Why does the Left wing fight so much for homosexual marriage?
PSST...you're hatred is showing.

So much for ';love the sinner, hate the sin';.

I thought God is forgiving? Or maybe so that's how morally bankrupt Conservatives can assure themselves.

So God likes people who oppress EVERYONE else to live by their ways, or be killed?

Why do you fight so much against something that has absolutely nothing to do with you. The same way it is none of their business who you marry is the same way it is none of your business if two men or two women marry each other......

And, I have to ask by the way....How do you know what God does or does not recognize? Have you had a personal conversation with him? And please do not talk about the Bible because the Bible also endorses rape, spousal abuse, slavery and infanticide (would you endorse that too?--just wondering).

Once again, I ask...why are you so against it...Is it because your own heterosexual marriage is so weak that anything different would cause you insecurities...
Because first, it's not required by the laws of this country to recognize God. We don't force religion on anyone.

Secondly, if you are Christian, you would realize that the bible is for you to apply to your OWN life, not for you to use to judge others. God is pretty strongly against that judging thing.

We believe that, if they are two consenting adults they should have the same privileges and rights as everyone else. This is America, we are all not supposed to deny rights to anyone based on race, sexual orientation, etc.

If the religious definition of marriage is what bothers you, then let the government be a-religious. Let them define all unions as ';civil unions,'; and leave the marriage thing up to the church. That way we all get the same benefits associated with marriage, and you can have your religious definition too.
Legal marriage is not a convenant with God, it is a registration with the state. Marriage to many people is religious. Gays aren't asking to be married in church. They just want the legal right. God doesn't have to recognize the marriage for a gay couple to get health care.

The anti-gay marriage push is about prejudice and fear. If gay people stay in the closet, we can pretend they don't exist. What a grand Christian sentiment.

My quesion for you is this: if marriage is such a precious, sacred thing, then why are all of the anti-gay marriage people not fighting against divorce laws? You can get a divorce in a friggin drive through in Vegas.
God is not the President, nor a Senator, nor a Congressman, nor a Supreme Court Justice.

God has instilled in His people the right to free will. The people He has created use that free will to interpret what is right for themselves.

If those people use that God-given freewill to decide that homosexuals should be provided the same legal rights as others, then God has no say in the matter.

Until judgement day.

But for now, God is irrelevant. His ';hand's off'; policy allows for humans to make their own decisions.

And if humans decide that homosexual marriage is OK, then it's ok.

For now.

If you are so convinced that God will punish homosexuals later on, what's the problem with allowing them to exercise their God-given freewill now???

Why do YOU presume to speak for God now?

Let God take care of it at the appropriate time.
Marriage is both a civil and a religious issue. Liberals believe that all Americans should have the same civil rights and equality under the law. Religion has and should have nothign whatsoever to do with that. As for the religious aspect of marriage, no church should have to perform a gay marriage if that goes against the church's beliefs.

God made all of us, and we are all His children. He doesn't make mistakes. I am quite positive that He will judge each one of us according to His own principles, and it is not up to us to judge each other. We are commanded to love one another as He loves us, and leave the judging to Him. The God I serve would want all of His children to have equal rights under the law, to be able to make medical decisions for the ones they love, to visit them in the hospital, and to have all the legal benefits that any couple has.

That is what we continue to fight for.
';god'; made people in her image.

Some people are gay.

';god'; is gay.

P.S. America is a secular nation. It says so right in the constitution. There are other non-secular countries you could live in. Like Iran.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Because banning gay marriage on religious grounds is a violation of the US Constitution.

Civil marriage has nothing to do with your personal relationship with God. There are churches which bless same-sex unions and would preform marriages if it were legal.

Why should the state give YOUR church preference over MINE?
Because Soviet anti-government agents promoted homosexuality in America for years. Gays then joined the party, and lobbied for rights.

What I just said may seem odd and paranoid. But in truth the majority of the thousands of Soviet agents during the cold war worked to undermine U.S. culture, not government.
The 2 party system that We have means that whatever the left is for the right must be against that way each side gains votes from opposing voter groups and then whichever party can lie and steal their way into office is the winner while America losses in the end.
The left fights against discrimination against gays for the same reason we fought against racial discrimination, discrimination against women, child labor, environmental abuse, etc. We are the party of inclusive morality and progressive thinking.

By the way, all gods are imaginary.
No, marriage is a legal contract that some people prefer to have memorialized in a church setting. That's why you need a marriage license. God doesn't want you to eat shellfish either. He said so right in that there bible./ Do you eat shrimp?
DAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! you is even smarter than me, and I am a reatrded infant. If Republicans didn't back up our opinions with phony made up stories, we'd have to resort to facts, and that would make us no better than libruls. I also love that you poseted on the fourth of july. WHile most libruls were out getting druk and getting laid and having fun, you were stuck home alone making up stories to defend our retarded ideaology! You are a true patriot! DAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
Marriage is a legal contract. ANYBODY who is over the age of consent should be able to marry the person of their choosing without interference by the government. ';god'; has nothing to do with it - ';god'; is only a concept
If marriage is a covenant of God, why do we let atheists get married?

And why is it performed by a Justice of the Peace?
I agree with them. Gay people should be allowed to have a union which provides them the certain privileges awarded a traditional married couple. HOWEVER, as long as it's called marriage I will not support it.
Sorry, but marriage has been around LONG before Christianity

Additionally, MARRIAGE IN THE UNITED STATES IS NOT RELIGIOUS BASED! ITS A LEGAL CONTRACT BETWEEN TWO CONSENTING ADULTS!

God, people like you should have been a miscarriage
Marriage is a social union or legal contract between individuals.
tell me, who is mrs god? from all i've heard, god lives in heaven with his son and some guy that calls himself the holy spirit.
The same reason we fight for equality in other areas as well, such as civil rights. We have morals and empathy.
repent from what?
Look! It's the mom from the movie Carrie.
I bet myself a million $$$ that this Q would have come from a religious freak....

Only, I can't pay up.....
because this is part of a great plan, to enslave the homo
They buy into the argument that they deserve tax breaks for their relationships.

Kevin: That an atheist doesn't believe in God makes their marriage no less a covenant of His. That theirs is not a religious ceremony makes it no less binding, either.
Because they will support whatever is politically correct at the time.
because if they fight to give gays rights, they will get gay votes. all politics.
Because they're so desperate they'll try anything just to get more votes !
Because they are pagans.
because they like gay sex?

  • So Cameron wants to repair the family unit and make marriage work but this is BNP policy so why steal it?

On Sunday breakfast TV Cameron condemed the BNP as racists but would not approach the subject of immigration he then went on to give his proposals about helping the marriage and the family. Guess what? almost identical policy to the BNP but this is one of those policies acording to many of you the BNP don't have but have had for many a year. Is Cameron now a racsist and is it right to steal your oppositions policies from under their nose Lets face it cameron is a tart and an embarasment like Blair. Look what Blair did and cameron will follow. So Cameron wants to repair the family unit and make marriage work but this is BNP policy so why steal it?
the problem is that the government have loads of power and finnance to bad mouth the British Nationalist Party, and make sure the public only see negative stuff. the British NationalParty are the only party we have that will claim our country back and fight hard to retain our culture. they are getting my vote simply because i want my country back. i dont want my grandson living as a second class citizen in he's own country. So Cameron wants to repair the family unit and make marriage work but this is BNP policy so why steal it?
The BNP have nicked polices from the Green Party (both parties by the way are too extreme in their own right for me to vote for them) when it comes to sustainable transport. What differentiates one from the other is that one is a racist, homophobic, xenophobic party, the other is just plain daft!

Not for the first time, Red, you misrepresent me. I have never denied the BNP have policies other than excluding all non-whites from UK - Hitler had some progressive economic policies, but the Holocaust kind of overshadows them.

Also, I never mentioned the word fascist - that was your word.

Look if an unacceptable party has an idea which is in itself good (I take it you not not want the family structure to collapse) it has to be adopted. If your enemy adopts certain method to defeat him you have to use a similar but improved method. In this case because he adopts one or more of BNP policies it does not make him a racist or a paid up member of BNP. He is like Clown Brown the pension wrecker at an election or run up trying to get his party elected
BNP...Bengaldeshi National Party...immigration an issue....talk about calling the kettle black
Imitation, they say, is the sincerest form of flattery. Besides, go back half a century or so and you'll find that virtually all political parties claimed to support the family unit. If this is the beginning of a move back in that direction, then it is to be applauded. However, I remain yet to be convinced.
'Supporting the family' is one of those noises that politicians make that doesn't actually mean anything. So Griffin and Cameron can both bleat on about supporting the family and repairing the family unit, and we know it's meaningless. So what's the problem with Cameron spouting the same cynical rubbish that Griffin does? They're both politicians, what do you expect?

Why does Cameron and Griffin having one policy in common make Cameron a racist? Does that mean you believe that vegetarians are Jew-hating meglamaniacs, because Hitler was a veggie?

Don't get me wrong - I'm a firm believer in marriage and the family unit, and I'm happy for governments to encourage this.

But I've yet to see a single party, Labour, Conservative, Liberal or BNP come up with a coherent idea about this. In fact, isn't the BNP idea of promoting the family all about making it difficult for mothers to continue careers and penalising them for not staying at home?

The one area where Cameron is absolutely right is that the BNP are a racist party. BNP leader, Nick Griffin, famously said:

    ';Without the White race nothing matters [other right-wing parties] believe that the answer to the race question is integration and a futile attempt to create ';Black Britons';, while we affirm that non-Whites have no place here at all and will not rest until every last one has left our land.';

Prospective BNP voters need to ask themselves which is more likely: that Griffin has abandoned such views, or that he has chosen to hide such views behind a veneer of respectability for electoral gain.
The bnp use these kinds of jingoistic policy ideas to make you think they are anything but an extreme right-wing party who would really like to put genocide on their agenda.

Read the whole of the bnp policy, (use a dictionary if necessary) and see how similar they are to Hitler's nazi party.
    The BNP are twats.

Im a female and am happily engaged to a female! What is people's problems with same-sex marriage?

Everyone haves a right to love. Straights can be happy and be able to live their life then why cant gays and lesbians? If it have NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU, then why does it matter what others do?Im a female and am happily engaged to a female! What is people's problems with same-sex marriage?
I don't have a problem with it o.o if you wanna be happy, i say be happy. i mean it's the same life whether you spend it laughing or crying. I think the problem with some people is that...actually i don't really understand why some act the way they do, they're just being ignorant i guess, don't let them get to ya, just live your life and keep on smiling.Im a female and am happily engaged to a female! What is people's problems with same-sex marriage?
You're asking in the wrong place. I am 100% on your side and I hope all the world to you two. Things will be tough but you'll have each other and just know that the ignorance expressed by the uneducated, socially-corrupt, and intelligibly inept peoples of religion will be of no consequence if you just learn to live with their inferiority.
Congrats! I recently married my wife and we faced opposition from straights and LGBTQ people. It sucked. But we felt what we were doing was important for us and the legality of it meant little to us. Everyone who came knows that we are married and that is how we introduce ourselves to others.

The argument against gay marriage makes no sense so do not even try to figure it out.
this is for PD:::: What does what she think matter? PERHAPS she lives somewhere where homosexual marriage is illegal. How could it not matter?! And what family wants to raise children in an enviroment and world where there parents arn't looked at as equals like straight married couples? Your ignorance amazes me.

Now for a real answer.. Most people can't grasp the idea of something different to be honest. And of course the whole biblical aspect (or bullshit - whichever you'd like to refer it as :) )
It should be about love, not religion saying ';DIS IZ A ABOMINATION!!111';.

I'm happy you're happy, you have every right to be. %26lt;3
Just ignore them. A lot of homophobes are actually repressing their own homosexuality. Be glad you've come to terms with your sexual orientation and found love. You're enjoying life unlike the haters.
    I agree with you.

I don't understand why people who are not affected by it care so much.

It's not like it affects them in any way.

Everyone should have the right to marry who they love. %26lt;3 %26lt;3

    =)
you just think that people think bad about it..its the natural responses of regular person..anything beyond the norms are something that people talk..dont be bothered by it anyway live ur life as u like it
I'm straight and I am for gay marriage, it's about the basic right of equality, either everyone should be able to get married or no one should.
Because in this case Politically Correct is Biblically Incorrect. Most people object for religious reasons. Why does what they think matter to you? (In other words, ignore them.)
Yeah you are right. Im straight, but some lesbians(not all) act very un-decent in front of people. And besides if they dont want no body looking at them like they are freaks, then act normal.
    i want everyone else

to be more miserable than me
Rock on! My best friend is a woman and she and her fiancee are happy together. They're both bi. =D
Because they're selfish and nosy. It's none of their business.
Good point. I follow your logic. Too bad more (or all others) don't reason in a similar way, I think.
thats what ive been trying to figure out.......... :(

Will legalising gay marriage turn anyone who is heterosexual into a gay person?

If not, what's your problem? Will legalising gay marriage turn anyone who is heterosexual into a gay person?
I find it endlessly amusing to read comments from fundies who seem to think that if homosexuality isn't actively suppressed, everyone will turn gay, as if homosexuality is much more appealing. They're giving away their hidden orientation.

Will legalising gay marriage turn anyone who is heterosexual into a gay person?
I'm glad you asked this because although i have been happily married to my wife for 25 years i found that lately i have started having gay tendencies. It really all started when the law was changed and allowed gay marriage. Before the law was changed i had absolutely no interest in being a gay, but since it was changed i have been listening to Dusty Springfield albums, watching Musicals and wearing leather trousers. I have even been tempted to grow one of those moustaches that grow down either side of the mouth and reach my chin. My hands seem to have a life of their own with one constantly finding its way on to my hip whilst they other just seems to limp heavily at the wrist.

Personally i blame the government Ducky! and Gordon Brown should change the law immediately before i scratch his eyes out!!

Just in case they dont change the law does anyone know where i can go to learn how to be a proper gay? Perhaps GC knows? (see below)
Yeah, isn't it enough that we're (supposedly) going to hell? You have to deny me the pleasure and right of marrying the woman I love? Honestly, I'm not trying to get married in a church or anything. I promised to marry Lillie and I want to keep my promise, that's all.
Yeah, in the same inexplicable way that legalizing interracial marriage made everyone in the country suddenly attracted only to people of different races.
    DEVIL WORSHIPER!!!!!!!!!1!!!111!!1!!!!!!one!!!鈥?br>

No but honestly, churches have no business telling me who i can or cant marry, and since im bisexual, thats exactly what Focus on the Family and the LDS church is doing.
Nope. Gay marriage doesn't harm my straight marriage one bit and it can't ';turn anyone gay.'; But it does grant equal civil rights to deserving citizens. That is why I support gay marriage.
Will not allowing gay marriage make the gays go straight?

Ask a dumb question and get a dumb response.
There are heterosexual marriages and I'm still gay...
if you're gay then you're gay, it's not really a choice
    no,and I don't have a problem
Yes, hope this answers the question. ;-)
    no
I understand that some may find this a difficult concept to understand, so I'll type slowly:

Marriage... involves... one... man... and... one... woman.

Now to try another hugely difficult concept for some to grasp:

Any... relationship... which... does... not... involve... one... man... and... one... woman... cannot... be... a... marriage.

Diagrams and further technical specs are available on request for those who are still confused about it all.

Next we'll have vegans ';marrying'; their pet goldfish and car lovers ';marrying'; their old bangers.

    Sheesh!

    So, what's YOUR problem?

Afraid that refusing to legalise ';gay'; marriage will turn homosexuals in to heterosexuals?

I mean, if we're gonna make a few straw men let's do it properly, shall we?
as my son in law say's, God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve

God does not condone gay marriages but goes against it

    Genesis1:27

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

    Matt 19:4 Mark 10:6

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth

does not say anything about same sex marriages

We are born with the fear of a loud noise and the fear of falling. All else is a learned response. If learned, it can be unlearned.
