How did the marriage between Princess Diana and Charles affect the British Monarchy?

I am doing a report on it for history so if you could give me some examples as well as many a few links to some good websitesHow did the marriage between Princess Diana and Charles affect the British Monarchy?
For a long time people idolised Diana and they blamed Prince Charles and the rigidity of the British court for the break up of the marriage. When there was no immediate reaction from the Queen after the fatal accident, this was considered outrageous and there were strong feelings of antagonism towards the royal family. However it has all died down now and people have realised that the couple was incompatible in the first place and there were mistakes made by both.

The major impact has been that the heir to the throne was not allowed to marry a divorcee in the past and history was made when Prince Charles married Camilla Parker- Bowles, whilst his uncle had been forced to abdicate for wanting to marry Mrs Simpson.

Prince Charles's first marriage produced ';an heir and a spare';, ensuring the viability of the male line. How did the marriage between Princess Diana and Charles affect the British Monarchy?
Alice,

I think one way to do this report is to contrast it with the 1923 wedding of Elizabeth, who eventually became the Queen mother. Elizabeth married in to the royal family and found that the princes including her husband were not well suited to lead a nation. Edward the oldest and heir did not want to get married, he didn't want to be king, and he had perpetual affairs with married women. Bertie (her husband) was hopelessly shy, addictive personality who stuttered. He was also a chronic worrier. The third son was also hopelessly shy. The fourth son had a number of problems including massive drug addiction (cocaine) and alcholism . He was also probably a homosexual, but he ended up sleeping with nearly everyone (men, women, and both together at the same time).

-----------------------------

Of course, in 1923 there wasn't the media culture that exposed all of these secrets. Elizabeth essentially took over the family with her strong personality and became the most popular royal in the nation. She loved her husband despite his shortcomings and (with the help of a lot of drinking) encouraged him and helped him with his stuttering. He was devoted to her.

Elizabeth's loyalty to family extended to her grandson, Charles. Charles in many ways had some of the limitations. He was not a natural ';people person';. Diana quickly overshadowed him as the personality that people became obsessed with. I think the Queen mother was dissapointed that Diana got so angry at the family that she broke away.
It elevated the monarchy to a glorious level. Such a wonderful day full of pomp and circumstance. Such a pity that the Spencer woman did not have the wherewithal to conduct herself with decorum afterwards.

After they divorced I made sure I got back the wedding present I had given them. Diana was not very keen on handing back my Breville Sandwich Toaster but I got my lawyers on the case.
It meant they had two children, one of whom will probably be king one day. I think you will find that if you use Google you will find a lot written about them.
It shock that institution to it's foundations, they thought they had a barbie princess and found an independent spirit!
It gave the monarchy a black eye.
