When Gay marriage comes up, why is the religion card put into play?

I have read the bible many times and cant find a single reason gay marriage is a religious matter.When Gay marriage comes up, why is the religion card put into play?
simply put because ';Marriage'; is a religious practice. Why it always ends up being argued that it is against Christianity I haven't really figured out because Christians aren't the only ones who get married. Many religions have marriage customs. My friend who is gay decided to have a Pagan Handfasting Ceremony. But due to the fact that the state follows Christian views on marriage, it is not legal by the state.When Gay marriage comes up, why is the religion card put into play?
Because the Bible states clearly that homosexuality is unnatural and an abomination to God. And that marriage is defined as a man and a woman.

You might wanna read your Bible again.

Genesis 2:24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

Romans 1:26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
In Christianity, marriage or holy matrimony is considered a sacrament, or a way to become closer to God. In Genesis, with the creation of Adam and Eve, God established the covenant of partnership between a man and a woman. There are numerous examples where the bible specifically speaks out against homosexual relationships, but here are just a few verses: Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Lev 18:22-23.

Whether or not you agree with these verses, you must admit that marriage is a holy sacrament, and states and courts just carry out that sacrament in a legal manner. The definition of marriage can not be extended in any way, it is defined as the union between one man and one woman. Now, Gay people don't have to be singled out, but a union between two people of the same gender should not be considered marriage. Call it a civil union, whatever, but in the true context, it is not marriage.
you may have read the bible but you definitely missed the parts that say that homosexuality is a sin. If homosexuality is a sin, (which it is) then gay marriage falls into that category. As you call it, the religion card is played not because it is a religion issue, it is called because it IS WHAT GOD'S WORD says. Show me in scripture where I am wrong that homosexuality is not a sin. You won't find it!
The reason why the ';religion card'; is put into play is that when God created the world he instituted marriage Genesis 2 ';For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.'; One man shall be united with one Woman (his wife) and they will be joined in marriage (become one flesh). That is why it is a religious matter.
Because although we are supposed to have separation of church and state, this country has traditionally allowed marriage to straddle the lines between both. A possible solution is to take the word ';marriage'; out of all civil documents and leave it for the churches. All couples, gay or straight, can be allowed to wed in a civil ceremony with the same rights as a church marriage. The leaders of churches can determine whether or not they marry gay or straight couples, based on their religious beliefs or what their congregation supports. This solution would uphold the constitution and allow us to further practice what we preach: religious freedom and equal pursuit of happiness.
It is mainly due to the fact that Christians believe it is against the Bible. They say that the Sodom and Gommorrah story alludes to the consequences of gay sex, as well as another place in the Bible it talks about it being against it.

But I believe that man has greatly misinterpreted the Bible in many ways. I don't think that anythign in the Bible was meant to be taken literally, I believe it was a book written to teach us the moral lessons of life.

As for gay marriage directly, there is nothing. It's just against gay sex.

Peace.
';Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.';

Does the Bible say anything about homosexuality... I'd go ahead and say ';yes';
I agree that there's not a prohibition against gay marriage in the Bible.

The ';one flesh'; argument is really all they got. And anyone with a third-grade reading level can see that a man being one flesh with a woman doesn't prohibit other kinds of relationships.
Here are a lot of biblical, religious reasons against gay marriage 鈥?http://www.jimfeeney.org/againstgaymarri鈥?/a>
The only objections to same-sex marriage are religious.

They come from a couple of verses in Leviticus and an ambiguous text in Romans.
Because the Bible gives more authority than a person speaking on his own saying essentially ' I'm straight and I wouldn't marry anyone of the same sex because I think it's yucky' Bleaaaah icky
I suspect it is due to the total ignorance and intolerance of the Christian right.
