Is the gay marriage issue similar to the history of racial discrimination in this country?

Gay marriage is often criticized because the defintion of ';marriage'; supposedly isn't inclusive of homosexual unions. Isn't this similar to blacks not being defined as true human beings in the past (l'm thinking of the Three-fifths clause)?Is the gay marriage issue similar to the history of racial discrimination in this country?
Let me first start off by saying I do not agree with gay marriage at all!!! I am a straight Black Christian. That being said,your question is 100% VALID. And here's why. At some point in the last 400years a white man(the only ones with any power)had to ask another white man, ';How does this Black Man becoming free hurt your freedom in any way?'; Much the way I will ask the Christian nay-sayers here. HOW DOES ALLOWING 2 GAY MEN OR WOMEN TO MARRY AFFECT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, OR WITH YOUR HUSBAND OR WIFE? (please be as specific as possible without being graphic) The argument that God doesn't like it really DOESN'T hold water. God said he gives his people free will,which by making this law we have stripped. I just have a problem when the imperfect human gets to decide which laws of the Bible we will make State%26amp;Fed laws %26amp; which we won't. What about ban on Divorce since God also doesn't care for that much. Or how about infedelity, that's shunned or pre-marital sex. I got the solution, lets make all of it illegal that way the Christians get a Bible based society, we can levy fines against the new law breakers thus no tax hikes, EVER. And gay people will get some form retrobution watching millions of people formally against them being arrested%26amp;fined just for living their lives. OR, we can just not make any of them laws%26amp;let people be ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS.Is the gay marriage issue similar to the history of racial discrimination in this country?
Hayek.. Absolutely not. Those promoting and supporting gay marriage want to place that image in the general public mind though . I can assure you of that. All that video footage of African American protesters being sprayed with fire hoses in the 60s. They try very hard to draw a correlation between them. When in reality the two are not even remotely connected. One is a matter of discrimination against a race of people the other is a matter of a perverted choice being made by a group of confused individuals.
No - it's not the same. The race issue is one thing.

Gays wanting to get married is a personal issue - and if not for the uptight extreme Christians and their ';morality'; nobody would give a heck who got married. What's the big deal?

Marriage has a lot of other things, which are rights, attached to it.
People who strongly disagree with Gays having any rights will say ';no, it is not similar to race at all';

People who want some equality and peace in their world will say ';Yes, it is a civil rights issue that we should look at';

You decide.
They aren't saying that gays aren't human beings. It is perfectly legal for gays to have civil unions. They have access to attorneys to draft wills, POA, medical directives, etc.

It is precisely the same. The same kinds of biblical/religious arguments now made against same-sex marriage were also made against interracial marriage. Miscegenation laws existed in this country as recently as 40 years ago.
No. Also, I am insulted everytime a spokesperson makes that rediculous claim.

Not to mention, sex is something that is personal, private, and intimate. How does one compare sex to ethnicity?
Yes, both are examples of denying someone basic rights because of something a person can't control and instances of sects of the majority deeming others as inferior to themselves.
People who are intelligent and empathetic enough to realize that sexual orientation is not chosen will support gay marriage as they support blacks being able to marry who they choose.
It's very similar. People who are against gay marriage are usually bigots or brainwashed by their church.
it may not be a race issue, but it sure as hell seems the same way. Just like african americans wanted rights, gays want rights. they are people too.
Of course it is. The common thread is people not being treated equally because of so-called morality.
Yes. Absolutely.
No it's comparing apples with oranges
No way, no how.
No
no
No, not at all. Gay people are not an ethnic group.
No,not even close.
